Centrale Nantes appoints Professor Michael Ortiz of the California Institute of Technology as Adjunct Professor
Michael Ortiz, Emeritus Professor at California Institute of Technology, is appointed Adjunct Professor at Centrale Nantes.

Jean-Baptiste Avrillier, Director of Centrale Nantes, formally awarded the title of Adjunct Professor to Michael Ortiz, Emeritus Professor at the California Institute of Technology, during a ceremony held on 26 November 2021.
Michael Ortiz also heads up a research chair at the Institute for Applied Mathematics, Bonn University, and is Adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering, at Stanford University. He is highly regarded in the international computational mechanics community, and in the applied mathematics community.
He has been working with Laurent Stainier, faculty member and head of the Modelling and Simulation research group in the Research Institute in Civil and Mechanical Engineering (GeM) since 1997. Laurent Stainier has visited Michael Ortiz's team at Caltech on several occasions, and Michael Ortiz has previously been a visiting professor at Centrale Nantes at the invitation of the research department.
Michael Ortiz will pursue his collaboration with Laurent Stainier: research projects, including an ANR project, co-supervision of PhD and master's theses, joint publications, co-organisation of international conferences, etc. As for teaching, he will give lectures for PhD and Master's students.
Adjunct Professors at Centrale Nantes
The school has set up this particular position in order to retain and optimise the contribution of a certain number of professors from outside the institution who have an international reputation.
