Awards and distinctions

The European Research Council (ERC) has announced the successful applicants for its 2025 ERC Advanced Grant call. Among them is Julien Réthoré, a research director at the Research Institute in Civil and Mechanical Engineering (GeM) at Centrale Nantes.

From 1 October 2026, Sophie Limou, a professor at Centrale Nantes, will join the 'Institut universitaire de France (IUF)' as a Junior Member. This nomination recognises the excellence of her research and the quality of her academic project.

Vincent Lostanlen wins the 2026 CNRS Bronze Medal!
A CNRS researcher at LS2N – the Nantes Digital Sciences Laboratory at Centrale Nantes – Vincent Lostanlen is working on the interaction between ecology and acoustics.

Stanford University has updated its list of the world's most cited researchers by their peers for their scientific work. The list, which represents the world's most influential researchers, is based on an international transdisciplinary database.

Abdelhamid HAFIDI won 1st prize in the ‘Je vends mon projet en 180s’ (3 minutes to pitch your project) competition during the 'Semaine du Béton 2025' (Concrete Week 2025). This competition challenged researchers and engineers to present their research project in three minutes in a clear, concise and captivating manner.

Abdallah Aoude received the ‘Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation’ 2024 award from EGU (European Geosciences Union) in the Nonlinear Processes in Geosciences category.

The Pays de la Loire Connect Talent call for projects attracts renowned scientists to the region. Among them Andrea Cherubini, who joined the Laboratory of Digital Sciences of Nantes (LS2N) to conduct his LIGEROB research project.

Jessy Simon was awarded 2nd prize by ESCM for the best thesis defended in 2022 at ECCM21 (ECCM21 – 21st European Conference on Composite Materials for Academia and Industry), held in Nantes from 2 to 5 July 2024.

Imane Bekrine, a PhD student in the GeM Institute, received the award at the 12th ACI/RILEM International Conference held in Toulouse from 23 to 26 June 2024.

Two PhD students from the Research Institute in Civil and Mechanical Engineering (GeM) were awarded research prizes at RUGC (Civil Engineering University Conference) 2024 held in Le Havre from 28 to 30 May 2024.

Marinelle El Khoury completed her PhD in the Research Institute in Civil and Mechanical Engineering (GeM) at Centrale Nantes. She was awarded the Centrale Innovation 2023 PhD Prize on 21 November during the organisation's 30th anniversary celebrations in Ecully.

Rana Al Nemer, postdoctoral researcher at the GeM in the Environmental Geomechanics Research Group, received the Best Poster Award at the ALERT Geomaterials workshop held in Aussois from 25-27 September 2023, for her poster titled “Multiphase Flow through a Granular Material under Hydro-Mechanical Loading.”

The NExT Junior Talent initiative aims to support the recruitment of high-potential scientists to the Nantes site with a view to them securing a permanent post at one of NExT’s member or partner institutions. Juan Sandoval has joined the Laboratory of Digital Sciences of Nantes to carry out his research project entitled PercuCob.

The congrès Français du Génie Civil (French Civil Engineering Congress), organized by AFGC, AUGC and École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay, was held in Gif sur Yvette from 23 to 25 May 2023.

Emmanuel Rozière, Professor and Director of Sustainable Development at Centrale Nantes, won the AFGC 2022 prize. It was presented to him on 3 May 2023 by Emmanuel Ferrier, chairman of the association's Scientific and Technical Committee.
